Track SEO Eventswith Custom Annotations

In November 2025, Google Search Console got a useful new feature: custom annotations. They’re simple, easy, and very handy. Use them.

Keep Track of SEO Dates

Good SEO includes tracking the dates of actions taken for SEO, like adding a page or adding keywords to a page. The new custom annotations feature at Google Search Console (GSC) makes it easy to keep track of and see the dates in the GSC timeline.

How to Use Custom Annotations at Google Search Console

Google has a few good help documents where you can learn how to use them. There’s no need to repeat it here. Find more info at these links.

Pro Tip: Keep Your Own Record of SEO Actions

Even without GSC, I suggest keeping a log of SEO actions, events, and edits. A simple spreadsheet suffices for basic notes and dates. Something like this:

Keeping your own record is important for several reasons:

  • You’ll eventually lose your data at GSC. GSC custom annotations are deleted after 500 days, and each site is limited to 200.
  • Google might change or discontinue the annotations feature.
  • You can share this information with people who can’t access GSC.

Keep your own log separately.

Conclusion

GSC added custom annotations in November 2025. They’re easy to use. Use them to track dates of SEO events and see them in Performance chart at GSC.
