Google completed a core update on December 5. Here’s what to do:
- Wait at least a week.
- Check site performance in Google Search Console.
- Compare a week or month after December 5 to a similar period before November 11.
What is a Core Update?
A few times a year, Google makes a significant set of changes to how their search algorithm works. This is called a core update.
The November 2024 core update started on November 11 and completed on December 5.
Generally, they are nothing worry about. Google is always tweaking how search works. With several announcements of core updates, they used this line to describe the goals:
This update is designed to continue our work to improve the quality of our search results by showing more content that people find genuinely useful and less content that feels like it was made just to perform well on Search.

So if you have good SEO fundamentals, including people-first content, your site will ride the waves of Google updates well. Of course, some sites are affected by updates, for more traffic and for less. You can review your site performance on Google Search Console to see if your site is affected.
